(6) At breakfast time Matilda sat quietly at the dining – room table, eating her cornflakes.
아침식사 시간에 마틸다는 그녀의 콘플레이크를 먹으며 식탁에 조용히 앉아있었다.
    
Her brother sat opposite her, eating bread with a mixture of peanut-butter and strawberry jam.
그녀의 오빠는 땅콩버터와 딸기잼 섞은 것을 바른 빵을 먹으며 그녀의 건너편에 앉아있었다.
    
The mother was just out of sight around the corner in the kitchen, making Mr Wormwood’s breakfast which always had to be two fried eggs on fried bread with three pork sausages and three strips of bacon and some fried tomatoes.
그녀의 엄마는 돼지고기 소시지 3개와 베이컨 3줄 그리고 약간의 튀긴 토마토를 넣은 튀긴 빵 위에 계란 프라이 두 개가 항상 있어야만 하는 Wormwood 씨의 아침식사를 만들며 부엌의 모퉁이 주변에 시야에서 벗어나 있었다.

    
(7) At this point Mr. Wormwood came noisily into the room.
이때 Wormwood 씨가 방안으로 시끄럽게 들어왔다.
    
He was unable to enter any room quietly, especially at breakfast time.
그는 특히 아침 식사시간에는 어느 방으로도 조용히 들어갈 수 없었다.
    
He always had to appear by making a lot of noise.
그는 항상 많은 소음을 내며 나타나야만 했다.
    
One could almost hear him saying, “It’s me! Here I come, the great man himself, the master of the house, the breadwinner, the one who makes it possible for all the rest of you to live so well! Notice me and respect me!”
누군가는 그가 거의 “나야! 그 위대한 장본인, 이 집의 주인, 가장, 너희들 모두가 아주 잘 사는 게 가능하도록 만드는 사람, 내가 간다. 나를 알아차리고 나를 존경해라!”라고 말하는 것을 들을 수 있었다.
    
(8) On this occasion he walked in and slapped his son on the back and shouted, “well my boy, your father is expecting another great money-making day today at the garage!
이번에 그는 걸어 들어가서 그의 아들의 등을 찰싹 때리며 소리쳤다, “내 아들, 네 아버지가 차고에서 오늘이 또 다른 거금을 벌 날이라 기대하고 있지!
    
I’ve got a few little beauties I’m going to sell to the idiots this morning.
나는 오늘 아침에 멍청이들에게 팔 몇몇 예쁜이들을 얻어왔거든.
    
Where’s my breakfast?”
내 아침식사는 어디 있지?“
  
“It’s coming,” Mrs Wormwood called from the kitchen.
“갑니다,” Wormwood 부인이 부엌에서 외쳤다.
    
(9) Matilda kept her face bent low over her cornflakes.
마틸다는 그녀의 콘플레이크 위로 그녀의 얼굴을 계속 낮게 구부렸다.
    
She didn’t dare look up.
그녀는 감히 올려다보지 않았다.
    
At first she wasn’t sure what she was going to see.
처음에 그녀는 그녀가 볼 것을 확신하지 못했다.
    
And secondly, if she did see what she thought she was going to see, she wouldn’t trust herself to keep a straight face.
그리고 둘째로, 그녀는 만일 그녀가 보리라고 생각했던 것을 그녀가 정말 보았다면, 그녀는 자기 자신이 무 담담한 얼굴을 유지하리라 믿지 않았을 것이다.
    
The son was looking directly ahead out of window, eating bread with peanut butter and strawberry jam.
그 아들은 땅콩버터와 딸기잼을 바른 빵을 먹으며 창문 바로 밖을 내다보고 있었다.
    
(10) The father was just moving to sit at the head of the table when the mother coming(came?) out from the kitchen carrying a huge plate with eggs and sausages and bacon and tomatoes.
아버지는 엄마가 계란과 소시지와 베이컨과 토마토가 담긴 큰 접시를 든 채로 주방에서 나왔을 때, 테이블 머리맡에 앉으려고 막 움직이고 있었다.
    
She looked up.
그녀는 올려다보았다.
    
She caught sight of her husband.
그녀는 그녀의 남편을 힐끗 보았다.
    
She stopped dead.
그녀는 완전히 얼어붙었다.
    
Then she gave a scream that seemed to lift her right up into the air and she dropped the plate with a crash and a splash onto the floor.
그런 다음 그녀는 그녀를 공중으로 곧바로 들어 올리는 것처럼 보이는 비명을 질렀고 그녀는 바닥 위로 요란하게 튀기며 접시를 떨어뜨렸다.
    
Everyone jumped including Mr Wormwood.
Wormwood 씨를 포함해 모두가 펄쩍 뛰었다.
